1.0 Commitment

 

1.1 Introduction

 

The Management Team of MainPower New Zealand Limited is committed to the implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management System set out in this manual.

 

The Environment Management System covers all activities, services and products supplied by MainPower New Zealand Limited. The Manual is designed to act as a guide to staff and con tractors on how they are to carry out their duties with regard to the environment.

 

The Manual complies with the requirements of the New Zealand Standard ISO 14001 : Environmental Management System : 1996.

 

The requirements of this Manual are to be followed unless a dispensation has been issued by the Manager. Dispensations will only be issued in the interest of safety, correction of an anomalous or incorrect procedure or in the case of an emergency.

 

2.0 Environmental Policy

 

The following Environmental Policy has been developed to give staff guidance on how to undertake their duties with regard to the environment. The Policy has the full support of the Board of MainPower New Zealand Limited.
Our Environmental Policy is:

 

MainPower New Zealand Limited supports the principle of a sustainable planet, therefore the Company is committed to caring for the environment while delivering energy and energy-related products and services to our customers.

 

Specifically, the company will:

 

  • Continually improve environmental performance
  • Promote pollution prevention through employee/contractor training and education
  • Exceed environmental legislation and develop a co-operative relationship with territorial regulatory authorities
  • Adopt a responsible role in managing all hazardous substances to avoid, reduce or mitigate the effects of the environment by supporting such initiatives as:
  • Transformer oil containment
  • PCB removal
  • Promote energy efficiency and conservation through efficient design and customer education
  • Adopt and promote renewable energy resources
  • Consider environmental issues when establishing new extensions to the network or reconstructing existing network

 

2.1 Responsibilities

 

It shall be the responsibility of the Manager to:

 

  • Ensure that all the policies and procedures formulated, comply with MainPower New Zealand Limited's policies on the environment
  • Ensure that the Environmental Policies are understood, implemented and maintained at all levels within the company
  • Arbitrate on environmental issues
  • Ensure that the views of interested parties are taken into consideration when determining Environmental Policy
