The communities of North Canterbury and Kaikoura, which encompass the local government areas of Waimakariri, Hurunui and Kaikoura, are very important to MainPower. The company has developed a sponsorship strategy to enable it to fairly consider ways in which it can support the social, environmental and economic future of the region.
MainPower's Sponsorship is focused on four key areas:
- Community energy efficiency programmes & activities
- Youth
- Environmental sustainability
- Economic Development
MainPower will give consideration to proposals which:
- Relate to energy efficiency and renewable energy generation activities
- Support local and/or regional environmental projects
- Align with regional economic development strategies
- Provide benefit to youth
- Have a wide community reach
Because MainPower is keen to ensure as many people as possible are able to benefit from a positive outcome in the community, there are some areas which MainPower has agreed it will not support. These things include:
- Individual's projects
- Any political or religious event or project
- After school programmes
- Travel
- Projects already completed
- Debt repayment or refinancing
- Fund raising costs
- Team or club activities, such as team trips or uniforms
